Gluten Free Batter For Frying
Recommended
Directions
- Whisk the flour and seasonings together. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolk into the club soda (or GF beer). In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a hand-held mixer until the form stiff peaks.
- Whisk the club soda mixture into the flour mixture a little at a time, smoothing out any lumps.
- Fold in the egg whites until combined. A few lumps of egg white will still be visible.
- To make fried just-about-anything:
- Fill a deep frying pan with about 2 inches of oil and bring to 360° F. While the oil is heating, make your batter.
- When the oil is hot, dust your food pieces one at a time in a small amount of gluten free all-purpose flour, shaking off anything that falls off. Dip the item in the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place the item in the hot oil being very careful not to splash yourself. Fry on one side until it is golden brown. Flip the item over and continue to cook until the other side is golden brown. Remove from oil and place on a paper towel to drain excess grease.
- Note: Chicken may take longer to cook through than most other items, so you may want to remove it from the oil and place it in a 350° F. oven until it is cooked through.
- Recommended foods to batter and fry:
- Chicken strips
- Fish strips
- Shrimp
- Onion rings
- Whole mushrooms
- Zucchini strips
- Mozzarella cheese sticks
